Jasmine (genus Jasminum) is one of perfumery’s most beloved white florals. Valued for its complexity, jasmine can smell bright, creamy, fruity, green, slightly animalic, or voluptuous depending on species (e.g. Jasminum grandiflorum, sambac). Its aroma brings floral richness and sensuality, and it often serves as a core in both classic and modern perfumes.

Top: When jasmine appears early, it can offer a fresh, green, almost fruity floral scent—soft and inviting rather than heady.
Heart (middle): The heart is where jasmine shines—its creamy, sweet, rich floral character dominates, often with subtle spicy or animalic hints.
Base: To support jasmine and make it more wearable, base notes like musk, woods, vanilla, amber or resins are used, anchoring the floral with warmth and longevity.
Evolution & Experience
At first spray with jasmine‑dominant perfumes you may smell a clean, bright floral opening—think dewy petals and soft greenery. As it evolves, the floral becomes deeper and more complex, gaining sweetness, creamy richness, possibly a touch of warmth or spice. In dry‑down, the supporting notes take over slightly—woods, musk, or vanilla soften the jasmine, smoothing edges and leaving a lingering, elegant trail.
Longevity & Projection
Jasmine tends to have good longevity—if well extracted or if synthetic/jasmine absolutes are used. Projection is often strong in mid‑phases (when the heart of jasmine is in full bloom). Pure jasmine can dominate; in blends it may recede more quickly if surrounded by heavy woods or smoky/incense notes.
Best Use / Occasions
Jasmine works beautifully in romantic or evening perfumes, formal scents, or anytime a lush floral character is desired. Also great in spring/summer for freshness, but in cooler weather it can be rich and enveloping. Sometimes it may be too bold or sweet for daytime casual settings unless balanced by green or citrus top notes or lighter supporting accords.
Character & Vibe
Jasmine feels romantic, luxurious, sensual, mature. It can be innocent and dewy or dark and mysterious, depending on how it’s framed. When used well, jasmine adds an emotional pull, a timeless eroticism, or a warm glow to perfume without being overtly sweet. It’s often one of the notes that leaves behind strong memory of a fragrance.
