Description
Launch & Inspiration
Released in 2015, Sauvage (Eau de Toilette) was created by François Demachy for Dior. The idea is inspired by “wide-open spaces”: raw nature, open skies, and crisp air, blending freshness with strength.Note Structure & Key Accords
Top notes: Calabrian bergamot — juicy, citrusy, opening up fresh and vivid.
Middle (heart) notes: Pepper (black and Sichuan), lavender, pink pepper, vetiver, patchouli, geranium, elemi — adding spicy, herbal, and earthy dimensions.
Base notes: Ambroxan, cedar, labdanum — woody, slightly resinous and warm, giving the fragrance lasting power and a clean rugged trail.
Scent Evolution & Feel
You get a powerful citrus burst at first — bergamot cutting through with brightness. Almost immediately, pepper and spice show up, giving the freshness some edge. As Sauvage settles, the woody and amber base grows; ambroxan plays a big role in giving it a clean, slightly soapy-smooth trail. Over time, it becomes more skin-close but still leaves a noticeable presence, especially with the woods, amber, and spicy woods finishing.Longevity & Projection
Sauvage tends to perform well. It projects strongly at first (citrus + spice) and offers many hours of wear. As it dries down, it becomes less loud but continues to linger, especially on clothing. Many users find it long-lasting and reliably noticeable.Best Use / When It Shines
Very versatile. Works great in daylight, casual settings, also strong enough for evening. Especially effective in spring, summer, and warm weather due to its fresh citrus opening. Cooler weather helps the woods and base come out more deeply. It’s a safe “all‑rounder” — good for work, nights out, even more relaxed occasions.Character & Vibe
Sauvage feels bold, modern, and confident. There’s something rugged about it — fresh like mountain air, but grounded with woods and spice. It gives off a “man who is assertive, clean, and unpretentious” kind of vibe. Very broadly appealing, which is both strength (easy to enjoy) and weakness (lots of people use it, so not unique).
